Since the establishing of the Single Supervisory Mechanism (SSM) DNB’s European banks supervision division is part of the centralised supervision of the largest European banks. The European Central Bank (ECB) is now responsible for the supervision of all euro area banks and organises this through direct supervision of the most significant banks.

This is what you will be doing as Head of Department European Banks at DNB
As head of department European Banks, you are together with the Joint Supervisory team - team members from DNB, the ECB and several professionals from other euro area countries- responsible for the supervision of European Banks.

Given the complexity and system relevance of Significant Institutions (SI) banks, a thorough and largely SSM standardized assessment process is applied – the Supervisory Review and Evaluation Process (SREP).
In order to accommodate this process, the European banks team is divided in sub-teams, with specialists supervising (and assessing) specific risks. The European banks team consists of a Credit Risk team, a Non-Financial Risk Team, a Financial and Business Model team and a Structural Risk team, monitoring the risk control and risk levels of the different elements. The team selects for which parts additional on-site inspection is appropriate.

What exactly does your job involve?
As the new Head of Department you will

  • Have close cooperation with ECB and the different divisions within DNB to ensure one-voice towards the OTSI (Onder Toezicht Staande Instelling)
  • Assess risks and risk mitigation plans of the OTSI
  • Have a fixed set of meetings with key function holders, board and supervisory board (‘Minimum Engagement Level’)
  • Ensure the Supervisory Examination Programme (SEP) and SREP is executed thoroughly
  • Benchmark OTSI assessments and findings with relevant peers
  • Cooperate with other competent authorities (AFM, NRA, other NCA’s)

This is where you will be working 
The multidisciplinary team consists of 15 DNB and 8 (ECB/National Competent Authorities) staff members. The head of department of European Banks co-manages the supervision of European Banks together with the Joint Supervisory Team Coordinator at the ECB and has a hierarchical reporting line to the division director European Banks of DNB.

Working for the Single Supervisory Mechanism (SSM)

DNB is an integral part of the SSM, composed of the European Central Bank and national competent authorities of 19 euro area countries. Working for the SSM comprises working for short periods of time abroad in the context of regular business travels, trainings or on-site visits, and for potentially longer periods during on-site inspections. This is an important characteristic of our jobs complemented by an environment in which wellbeing/work-life balance is enabled. Working for the SSM also implies collaborating in multi-national and -cultural teams and in the context of different national frameworks. Therefore a strong ability to use other EU working languages for business purposes is an asset.

This is what we need from you

  • Academic background, strong analytical skills and in-depth knowledge of the financial sector and banking.
  • 10+ years relevant (international) experience in the areas of supervision, financial institutions and the private financial sector (e.g. consultancy, accountancy, finance, legal profession).
  • Excellent communicative skills to make interconnections and the ability to actively manage stakeholders, both internal and external.
  • Extensive experience in managing a mixed team of highly educated professionals operating in different fields of knowledge and having varying skills.
  • The capability of motivating your team to work closely together with team members remotely.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and you are an inspirational leader
  • Outstanding verbal and written communications skills in English.
  • Political acuity, willingness to travel and you thrive in a multicultural environment.

  • A gross monthly salary between € 6.300,-- and € 9.000,--, based on a 36-hour working week. Among other things, the final salary will depend on your expertise and experience.
  • A 13th monthly salary, and an 8% holiday allowance calculated on your 13-month salary.
  • Your pension entitlements will accrue under a career-average scheme including provisional indexation, with a 6.1% employee contribution.
