I&ORM is ready for the next step: the shift from working according to the instrumental approach, to focusing on managing the risks that matter based on professional judgment. An essential shift is to prepare I&ORM as much as possible for the rapidly changing environment, internally and externally. The focus for the coming year will be on further developing and strengthening knowledge and skills in the field of data, writing (understandable language, a crips and clear core message with a clear call-for-action) and making analyses. We have already started this in 2023 with a bank-wide program for the risk fit employees.  

Your job

This is a vacancy within the I&ORM network of information & operational risk managers. This pool is divided over the teams and these teams are responsible for the day-to-day operational risk management activities for the different units and functions of the bank. You are the expert in information and operational risks in (one of) the focus areas and can make the translation to the necessary process management. Ad hoc and on a structural basis, business partners ask us for our risk management expertise. Your product: essential, supported, and innovative advice in understandable language, crips and clear. The most important aspects are properly identifying client needs, collecting, and enriching relevant data, analysing processes, and evaluating the existing risk control framework. You ensure support by good stakeholder management through dialogue with the first line, supported by impactful presentations and clear reporting. 

We are looking for driven professionals who advise on risks that really matter. Besides conducting specific investigations, you will also carry out several types of risk assessments in teams and develop scenario analyses to raise risk awareness within the organisation and make the impact of information and operational risks measurable.  

In addition, you play a key role in leading strategic change processes, such as digitalisation, transformation processes but also Cloud implementation for example. You consult with your team and with other parties such as Legal, Compliance, SIM through a risk assessment how risky the changes are and what we need to do to adequately mitigate the identified risks in the new situation. In short: responsible work. 

Working environment

Within I&ORM we mirror the 1LoD organisation with a focus on Client units added with (Risk) Specialists teams. All I&ORM employees are allocated to a Team with a dedicated manager. Some employees work for multiple Teams or will be temporarily allocated based on quarterly priorities set (so called Flexible Capacity). The leaders of our teams are both the liaison for the business in the Risk profession and the manager of permanent and partly flexible teams. This requires both substantive and people-oriented leaders who take care, courage and collaboration, our core values, as their starting points. 

Why Courage? You must have the Courage to do things differently. To focus more on the professionalism (knowledge & skills) of the I&ORM Expert, instead of describing the rules in detail. Only then we will increase sound risk taking within ABN AMRO and create focus on the risks that matter. Courage also improves the department's ability to execute, by making decisions quickly and efficiently and by adhering to them. 

Collaboration is significant to achieve our purpose, adding confidence to the client's journey. By focusing on the knowledge and skills of the employees, we appeal to their entrepreneurship and personal leadership. To be successful in this, they will have to work closely with the 1st and 2nd line in our 3 Lines of Defence (3LoD) model and with the I&ORM colleagues. This cooperation is also important, because NFR is by nature an area that is not black and white. Only by really working together, you can add colour to the grey. You do this by being in constant dialogue with your environment, as equals. 

Finally, Care. By giving I&ORM employees freedom, within the set frameworks, in how they do their work, they can take responsibility. This in turn contributes to the involvement of the I&ORM department and to the joint implementation of the I&ORM purpose 'Adding confidence to the client's journey'. Encouraging and supporting employees in their development is necessary to become risk fit together and to contribute to a Risk Fit organization with Risk Fit professionals.  

How does it work in practice? In practice, the five managers of the Client Units, Enabling, Functions and the Risk Specialists manage a network of:  

  • Domain experts 
  • Non-Financial Risk Specialists (I&ORM)
  • Senior Non-Financial Risk Specialists (= Flexible Capacity)   

These managers together are responsible for the distribution of capacity across the various domains based on set quarterly priorities. This creates a clear responsibility while maintaining flexibility. And you will contribute to this within the flexible capacity.

  • The gross monthly salary displayed above is based on a 36-hour work week, including vacation pay and benefit budget.
    • The Benefit Budget is 11% of your salary. The Benefit Budget allows you to acquire additional employment benefits. If you make no purchases or reservations in the Benefit Shop in a given month, you are paid one twelfth of your Benefit Budget that month.
  • Five weeks of vacation per year. You have the option to purchase an additional four weeks per year.
